Marriage is a Covenant
“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” (CCC 1601)
“By its very nature conjugal love requires the inviolable fidelity of the spouses. This is the consequence of the gift of themselves which they make to each other.” (CCC 1646)
“Children are the supreme gift of marriage and contribute greatly to the good of the parents themselves.” (CCC 1652)
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Matthew 19:6)
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her.” (Ephesians 5:25)
