Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

  • What is OCIA?

The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process through which adults and older children explore the Catholic faith and prepare to enter the Church. This journey includes:

    • Learning about the teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Growing in a relationship with Jesus through prayer, Scripture, and the Sacraments
    • Participating in parish life and worship
    • Discernment with the guidance of the Church
  • Who is OCIA for?

    OCIA is for:

    • Adults who have never been baptized
    • Adults baptized in another Christian tradition who wish to become Catholic
    • Baptized Catholics who have not received their First Confession,  Holy Communion and/or Confirmation
  • How the Process Works

    The OCIA process usually includes;

    1. Inquiry- Ask questions and learn the basics of the faith
    2. Catechumenate- Deepen understanding and begin living as a disciple
    3. Purification & Preparation- Prayer and preparation before receiving the Sacraments
    4. Mystagogy- Continued growth in the faith after receiving the Sacraments
  • What to Expect

    • There is no cost to participate in OCIA.
    • You can start by simply attending and asking questions — no pressure.
    • Sponsors will walk with you through the process and support you in prayer.
    • We welcome people from all faith backgrounds and those with no religious background.
    • The process moves at a gentle pace, with time for prayer, discussion, and learning.
  • Schedule

Our OCIA program begins in the fall and continues through the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday - about 9 months total. Participants meet weekly for prayer, discussion, and study, and attend Sunday Mass together.
